The pirate wars have begun.
Alliances are being formed. Treachery is in the wind. And danger hides in the shadows.
Rachel Caine knew that marrying Morgan Reid, a soldier of fortune, would lead to a life of danger, but when a deserted pirate ship is discovered in the Great Eastern Sea, she is plunged into an adventure that will test her courage like no other.
From battles at sea to a rescue on an island fortress, Rachel and Morgan face peril and betrayal by those whom they know and trust. In this game of deception and double-crosses, no man, or woman, is safe from harm, and only the strongest will survive.

Never read anything about pirates -movies I've watched, but this was something else. A really exciting story sure to keep you on edge from the first page to the last. Swashbuckling pirates at their best. Story is filled with adventure, fights, Friendships, Betrayals, loyalties - full of twists and turns. I love Rachel Caine and hubby Morgan Reid. The pirate wars have began. Loyalties are tested and so are friendships. The writing and descriptions are so good that I honestly did not know where to hide or who to trust. I felt like I was actually on the scene and feared for my life. This is the first book I read from this author and wouldn't be the last. It is fantastic and very well written. I am off to the next chapter in Coronado's Treasure. I can't wait to see you there. If you are good, I might even introduce you to Rachel, Morgan, Lagos, the Stone brothers, and the rest of the crew. Don't forget to bring your cutlasses, flintlocks, grenados, and anything else you need before boarding the pirate ship. Fun and adventure await.

Scarlet And Gold edition by Randy Mixter Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
This book is a guilty pleasure. It's like a second slice of cheesecake, you know you shouldn't, you know it's not good for you, that there's no nutritional value whatsoever, that it's just fluff, sugar and fat, but you enjoy it nonetheless.
When I was 7 or 8 a friend had a pirate-themed birthday party, at night, after we'd spent all day chasing each other and stuffing our faces with pirate cake, they showed us all a pirate movie, Errol Flynn or something, I can't remember, but during the reel changes (yes, I know, I'm old) we would grab our plastic swords and fight each other to the death in the patio, replaying the exploits of the heroes on screen. It was a wonderful day, one of the best birthday parties ever, attested by the fact that I can still remember it almost 40 years later.
This book is like that. It's a Sunday evening playing pirate. Yes, it's cliche and predictable and it sometimes makes you roll your eyes, but it's a good time. It's an 8 year old kid channelling Errol Flynn. It's Calvin as spaceman Spiff.
It's got some mistakes and could have used a little more editing, but if you can switch off your brain for a bit and just go with it, it's a lighthearted good time. It's a summer blockbuster movie with lots of popcorn, and it sure as he'll beats sitting through a Michael Bay movie.
Really enjoyed this book...to the extent that I got the second one...unfortunately the third book is not a edition. Sigh!
I recommend this book to everyone. The characters are realistic. The story line is captivating. It is easy to read, and very satisfying.
Waste of time, but I finished it. Forget this one, lots better stuff out there. Do not recommend this book - skip it and good luck with so.egging brtter.
Rachel and her husband, Morgan, battle pirates and corruption in a swashbuckling adventure on both sea and land. Rachel is skilled in a variety of weapons but most especially the bow and arrow. She complements Morgan's skill with the sword and dagger. The writing is good and the mistakes are few. Some of the characters are very well done but others are are not so much. The descriptions are good. This is a great fun read and I enjoyed the story. I look forward to another in this genre.
When I was a young boy, I loved watching swashbuckling films featuring that swashbuckler of all times, Errol Flynn. I loved being able to escape for a few hours watching Captain Blood, The Sea Hawk, or the Master of Ballantree. A few pages into Randy Mixter's lastest literary achievement, Scarlet and Gold, I was escaping again with one of my favorite authors.
There's much that could be said about Mixter's storytelling prowess, especially his ability to engage the reader on many levels. But what I have always enjoyed about Mixter is his ability to tell a good story--and tell a story he does in Scarlet and Gold! You don't have to be an Errol Flynn fan or a Johnny Depp one for all that matters, to appreciate the sea adventure Mixter tells. However, if you like your stories packed with adventure, you are most definitely going to love this story.
I've read most of Mixter's books and I have to confess that this one is one of his best, hands down. He's in top form with this style of writing and I can't wait for the next Rachel Cain Adventure!

I'll Be Home For Christmas
Author Randy Mixter has done it again! He has written a story, but not just any story, a pirate wars trilogy of adventure that holds no boundaries!
Scarlet And Gold is a deadly- daring, adventurous, love story centred on a seemingly fearless husband and wife team. The wife, Rachel Cain is of a devotion like non-other. She has prepared herself to follow her husband, Morgan Reid, who seems to be chased by something far more evil than most can comprehend. This lurking fear keeps Morgan and Rachel chasing one adventure after another, and barely escaping each deception of betrayal. On the dangerous Eastern Seas amongst pirate wars, they start out on a rescue mission. Little did they know this mission holds double-crosses on both sides!
Scarlet And Gold is bound in adventure; romance, with a touch of sorcery that is eluding.
I highly recommended Scarlet And Gold written by Randy Mixter, as well as, the introduction to Rachel Cain and Morgan Reid in, Summer’s Passing.
